What a day

Unfortunately not a fun one. In a meeting I learned that almost everything I worked on in the last two weeks was good for nothing. But we are still releasing on Wednesday and I have to fix it somehow. I was close to crying in this meeting, but I'm tearing up very easily at the moment.
Friday I learned that my blood sugar level in the first glucose tolerance test was too high, so I have to do another one. That one will be 4 hours, I will have to give blood 4 times and I'm not allowed to eat or drink (other than water) for 12 hours before the test. I really hope I don't have gestational diabetes, but if so it's only for three month. I should be able to handle that.
Now a few nice things: we went to a child birth preparation class. It was very interesting to meet other parents-to-be. I hope the exercises we learned will help us in 3 months.
Also I put together the bassinet for our daughter. Here's a picture:

And right now I'm on my way to a prenatal water exercise class and hopefully I will meet there a woman I met at my sewing class. Yes I'm writing my blog in the BART on my iPhone, that's when I have a lot of unused time.

And again a new picture of me (I have never taken so many pictures of me before)

My first quilt

The top layer is done:

The next step is putting it together with the batting and the back fabric and then quilt it.
I do a technique called "stitch in the ditch", which means it follows existing sewing lines.
Here you can see how it looks in my sewing machine:

Yesterday night I finished the middle part:

And here's a non quilted part for comparison:

I guess I will be busy for a few more days with quilting and then I have to finish it by adding a binding.
I really hope our baby girl will like it, at least our cat Candy does ;-)

Second Trimester is over

Today is the last day of the second trimester. Wow time flies by, but on the other hand it's still three months to go.
I'm still feeling pretty well. The only thing which really annoys me is the heartburn (Sodbrennen). Before I was pregnant I never had it and now all the time. Fortunately there's a medication I'm allowed to take. Other than that I'm really lucky, no back pain, no stretch marks and also my belly button didn't pop out so far. Let's hope it stays that way.
The baby is growing perfectly and kicking a lot, especially at night. It's also sometimes visible from the outside.
And here's the obligatory picture of me

My sister's visit ...

... is over. She stayed for three weeks and we had a great time. Here are a few things we did together:
  • We went to the Kite Festival in Berkeley

  • We also went to the beach in Alameda the one day it was a little bit warmer. But it was still to cold to hang out just in swim wear.
  • We hosted a LAC party and showed the girls how to make sushi and origami
  • We all attended a 4D ultrasound session and watched our little girl moving around, kicking me, sucking on her thumb and yawning.
  • We went to a good-bye party for friends moving to Paris for a year and to a 1st birthday party for a friends son.

  • We did a lot of shopping. The biggest thing we bought was a new sewing machine for me.
  • So the main theme was sewing. My sister sewed a lot of baby clothing. And because we didn't have a baby yet, Candy had to try it on.

  • I also did some sewing. Together we made a table runner for our grandma quilting style. I will continue sewing and try to made a bigger quilt. I will keep you updated.

We did much more, but these were the main points. So you see we were busy.

And last but not least a new picture of me. And a zoom to my shirt. I know it's mirrored that happens when you take a picture using a mirror, but I'm sure you can read it.
